The choice of a screen free childhood

Parenthood has reminded me many times of myself in San Francisco doing research with some of the bigger corporations, some of them gaming companies in the Valley for the UX research I was conducting with other UX researchers. After closing the research and walking through the delightful offices in a central location I remember asking the researcher if he allows his children to use the games they create. Of course not was the answer, thats for others. It reminded me of the tobacco industry, we provide but we don’t use it ourselves, as I relentlessly make my life better longterm, avoiding screens with my little ones, eve if it in itself would have been easier with, but only short term.

This is why I invited Ellen Sundh to come and speak of her journey with minimizing screens at her scool at GeekGirlMeetup. Based on Ki-DS NGO work, she founded a NGO (Skärmfria aktiviteter på Kungholmen), that act locally in her school, and will be sharing the details of this in Swedish on May 5th, 2026. Sign up here.
